Watched much hyped and controversial movie Kalimannu. The movie Started as a below average flick with 3 item dances within the first 30 minutes and a little cliched scenes. Towards the interval, all the character are introduced and the story developed in the second half which is much better than the first half, but again could have been better.
As a movie, this time Blessy failed to deliver a good one compared to his previous outings. Don't know why, I expected much more from him and felt like that he could make it far far better than the present form. What I felt is that the director tried to deliver so many messages in the second half .The movie carries so many things we should aware about like organ donation, pregnancy, IVF etc. Somewhat, Blessy succeeded in delivering these messages. There is no need for more controversies about the delivery of the leading actress because no such scenes, only facial expressions of Swetha and a small scene of the new born baby. Except the 2 item songs which are not recommended for children, you can watch this film with your family.
Swetha acted well and her courage should be appreciated. Biju Menon supported well. Suhasini, Valsala Menon also did their part well. Guest appearance of Priyadarshan received good applause, the other guest appearances are OK. Cinematography by Satheesh Kurup gave the film a good support in the second half. Songs from ONV-Jayacandran team are also good. The item songs in the movie came in the first 30 minutes and not recommended for children. But Swetha performed very well in these item numbers. BGM is OK with the mood of the film.
Climax is not up to the mark, could have been ended in a better way. The movie carries a good message about the motherhood and why we should respect our mother and protect her in old age. Not only our beloved mother, we should respect all women in our society.
The movie is surely appreciated for the attempt. Hats off to Blessy and Sweta Menon. There is a chance for more controversies for the main subject in the movie rather than the delivery scene of Swetha.
Verdict: 2.5/5
